Rise in spending on underprivileged students

Universities and colleges spent a record £378.1 million on supporting students from lower-income and other under-represented groups in 2010-2011, says a report by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Jointly prepared by HEFCE and the Office for Fair Access, the 4 July report on monitoring widening participation, strategic assessments and access agreements says sustained and targeted outreach is key to sustaining and improving fair access.
