The chairman of the European Union’s flagship graphene research programme has said there is still much to be done before the early promise of graphene becomes reality.
Andrea Ferrari, director of the University of Cambridge’s Graphene Centre, will chair the Graphene Flagship, a 10-year programme with funding of €1 billion (£845 million). The aim of the project is to commercialise graphene.
“The large funding the EU has invested in our vision puts a huge burden of responsibility on our shoulders,” Ferrari said in a statement to mark the launch of the project on 15 October. “It will require us to focus on results and stay away from hype.”
