Higher education challenged to change ‘heroic leadership culture’

The past decade has seen a huge increase in pressure on university leaders, and the future holds challenges for diversity and inclusivity, according to Ewart Wooldridge, founding chief executive of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

In a report for the Higher Education Policy Institute published on 28 February, Wooldridge highlights the three biggest challenges he feels higher education faces. These are replacing the “heroic leadership culture” with a more inclusive approach, the diversity of leadership and governance bodies, and more academic and professional collaborations.
