Russell Group voices fears over EU research funding

The heads of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities have warned that research funding “risks being squeezed out” when the European Council meets on 7 February to agree the 2014-2020 budget.

In an open letter in the Financial Times on 4 February, the 24 vice-chancellors say that funding from the European Research Council alone has contributed “a massive £1billion to the UK knowledge economy” but that this funding is at risk of being cut.
