Harper Adams University, in Shropshire, has appointed Princess Anne as its first chancellor.
The princess has been an honorary fellow of the institution since 2006 and, according to a statement on 22 April, she may participate in conferring degrees or act as an ambassador in her ceremonial role.
The date for her formal installation will be set later in 2013.
