The University of Edinburgh is writing to “three of the world’s biggest fossil fuel producers” to say that it intends to divest from them within the next six months.
In a press release on 26 May, the university said it was divesting from the companies because of their involvement in producing fuels from coal or tar sand deposits, which are “high carbon-emitting industries that operate where alternative sources of energy exist”.
The companies will have four weeks to respond, the university said.
