Government begins crackdown on fake universities

A UK government initiative to investigate fake universities has begun this month.

In June, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced its intention to crack down on unaccredited degree-awarding institutions that describe themselves online as universities.

BIS has contracted a private company, Graduate Prospects, to investigate websites that advertise themselves as universities and then list them on a public database.
