Most of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities have, contrary to expectations, won golds and silvers in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework results.
The results of the teaching assessment exercise, announced by the Higher Education Funding Council for England on 22 June, revealed golds for eight Russell Group institutions and silvers for 10, including University College London.
The universities of Southampton, Liverpool and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) scraped a bronze.
