The Russell Group has urged the UK government to allay the fears of European Union nationals working at British institutions by providing more clarity on settlement laws and travel after the UK leaves the bloc.
In its report, UK Government’s Position on EU Nationals, published on 3 August, the group argues that the government’s policy in this area is still unclear.
The Russell Group said the government should ensure continuous residence was not affected by time spent abroad for study or research. It said there should be exemptions to the 180-day rule on the maximum time that non-UK citizens can spend abroad in any year.
