Unions accept 3.2 per cent pay rise

Higher education trade unions have agreed to a salary offer from the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association that will see staff pay rise by at least 1.7 per cent in the coming year.

All academic staff will receive pay rises of between 1.7 per cent and 2.4 per cent. Because many will also be promoted, the average pay rise will be 3.2 per cent, effective from 1 August, the employers’ association announced on 4 August.

Staff who earned up to £21,220 in 2016-17 will receive an increase of between 1.7 per cent and 2.4 per cent, with staff at the lowest end of the pay scale receiving the highest rise due to the weighted increase. Staff who earned more than £21,220 in will all receive an increase of 1.7 per cent.
