Fair access improving slowly at Scottish universities

The proportion of full-time university students who come from the most deprived areas of Scotland has increased slightly since 2013-14, the Scottish Funding Council has said.

In a report published on 26 September, the council said that in the 2015-16 academic year, 14 per cent of full-time university students enrolled in their first higher education degree and domiciled in Scotland were from the 20 per cent most deprived areas.

This represents a minor increase when compared with 2014-15, when these students made up 13.9 per cent; and 2013-14, when they made up 13.7 per cent.
