The Medical Research Council is to fund a £1.7-million Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Disease biobank involving five universities and more than 40,000 patients.
The University of Glasgow is leading the biobank consortium, joined by Newcastle University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Manchester, and Queen Mary, University of London.
Researchers from the five institutions will bring together different biobanks and clinical data sets to create a single, searchable information source. The biobank will inform the treatment of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, kidney disease and systemic lupus erythematosus.
