KEF likely to split universities into eight categories

Universities are likely to be split into eight groups in the Knowledge Exchange Framework based on their size, research quality and degree of specialisation, rather than the four categories previously suggested.

The KEF, announced in October 2016 by former science and universities minister Jo Johnson, will evaluate how well universities engage with industry and exchange knowledge. A consultation on the exercise will open at the end of the year, said Research England.
