Thousands of EU staff leave universities after Brexit vote

Campaigners have warned of a “Brexodus” as freedom of information requests reveal that tens of thousands of European Union nationals working at UK universities have left their institution since 2016.

Best for Britain, a group campaigning for a second referendum, issued freedom of information requests to more than a thousand NHS trusts, universities, fire services, ambulance services, national parks, local councils and government departments.

From the data gathered, the group revealed that 21,548 EU nationals from outside the UK had left their institutions since the year of the Brexit referendum. However, these figures cannot be interpreted as number of people leaving the UK.
