Research England has confirmed a £70-million increase in non-capital grant funding for the 2018-19 academic year, taking the total amount allocated to just under £1.88 billion.
According to the Guide to Research and Knowledge Exchange Funding 2018-19, published by Research England on 15 May, quality-related funding allocated to research-degree programme supervision will increase by £20m to £260m, and QR charities research funding will increase by £6m to £204m.
A second document released by Research England on the same day, detailing the recurrent grants and formula capital allocations, says there will also be an extra £35m for recurrent knowledge exchange funding, comprising a £10m increase in funding allocated to the Global Challenges Research fund, from £48m to £58m; and a £25m boost for the Higher Education Innovation Fund, from £185m to £210m.
