Cancer biologist admits inventing data, says university

A cancer biologist at the University of Bristol has resigned after admitting fabricating results, the university has said.

Abderrahmane Kaidi, who was looking at DNA damage and cancer, resigned from his post in the summer following an investigation into research misconduct, the university said in a statement. He is also being investigated by the University of Cambridge, where he previously worked.

A spokeswoman for the University of Bristol said: “At the time of his resignation, Dr Kaidi was under investigation in respect of allegations relating to his behaviour in the laboratory towards other members of his research group. A confidential investigation into allegations of research misconduct against Dr Kaidi had also recently concluded. Dr Kaidi admitted to having fabricated research data to convince a research collaborator in another institution that certain experiments had taken place, when this was not the case.”
