Senior education department official set for Queen Mary role

Philippa Lloyd, the director-general of higher and further education at the Department for Education, is to become vice-principal for policy and strategic partnerships at Queen Mary University of London.

Lloyd, who holds a PhD in atmospheric physics, began her career as an editor at the science journal Nature. She was director-general for people, strategy and higher education in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills between 2012 and 2016, moving on when responsibility for higher education transferred to the Department for Education.

She will become Queen Mary’s first vice-principal for policy and strategic partnerships on 2 January 2019. The post will focus on “policy and partnership development at the local, regional and international level”.
