Swansea gets £36m for clean energy innovation

Swansea University has been awarded £36 million from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to develop building materials and coatings that generate electricity from light and heat.

The funding, from the Transforming Construction challenge of the ISCF, will enable the creation of an Active Building Centre aimed at removing barriers to the large-scale adoption of these materials in construction.

The award was announced when Philip Hammond, the chancellor, visited the university on 19 September.
