A doctoral training programme run by the University Alliance, a group of business-focused institutions, has won a €6.5-million (£5.9m) grant from the European Commission.
The UA’s Doctoral Training Alliance will use the funding to set up 80 fully funded PhD studentships for early-career researchers at 15 UK institutions, focusing on applied biosciences for health, energy and social policy.
“The DTA programme responds to the needs of industry and the challenges facing society, training independent, highly employable researchers with relevant skills and expertise to thrive in strategically important sectors,” said UA chairman John Latham. “The success of our proposal reflects that.”
