Former civil servant to lead University Alliance

Vanessa Wilson, director of commercial and communications at the government’s elite sport agency UK Sport, has been appointed chief executive of the University Alliance of business-focused universities.

Wilson will start her new job on 18 March. She will succeed acting chief executive Liz Bromley, who replaced Maddalaine Ansell in May 2018 after Ansell went on parental leave. Ansell then went on to become director of education at the British Council in November 2018.

Wilson has 15 years of experience in the civil service and has held roles in four government departments, including the education and environment departments. In 2011, she joined UK Sport, which is responsible for government investment in Olympic and Paralympic sport. Between 2014 and 2018 she also served as an external trustee and deputy chair at the University of Lincoln Students Union.
