Neurodegenerative research gets boost in Scotland

Researchers at Scottish universities will benefit from a newly set up fund for research focusing on conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and motor neurone disease.

The fund—which has been allocated £75,000 this year by the Scottish government and the same amount from the RS Macdonald Charitable Trust—will support research that is clinically relevant.

The University of St Andrews will administer the fund and applications will be assessed by a panel of clinicians, academic researchers and lay representatives led by Frank Gunn-Moore, a professor of molecular neurobiology at the university.
