Norwegian research council issues stark Brexit warning

Researchers in Norway should be cautious about collaborating with scholars in the UK because of the uncertainty caused by Brexit, according to the Scandinavian country’s research council.

The Research Council of Norway says that the risk of a so-called hard Brexit, which would see the UK leave the European Union without a deal, means that Norwegian applicants for Horizon 2020 funding “need to consider the potential risks of cooperation with British partners”.

A statement published on the council’s website on 28 January says: “The Research Council of Norway is recommending that Norwegian applicants give careful thought to this before taking part in an application coordinated by British institutions or companies.”
