QUB distances itself from Huawei

Queen’s University Belfast has become the latest university to step back from Chinese technology firm Huawei, after the University of Oxford announced that it had suspended new donations and research funding from the firm.

A spokeswoman for QUB said the university was not pursuing any new funding opportunities with the firm.

The Northern Irish institution is collaborating with Huawei on one project, in the area of wireless communications through its Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology. The project, a collaboration with Huawei Technologies Company (Global) and the University of Utah, received £713,111 from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
