Some of the UK’s most prestigious universities have defended their processes for dealing with industry, amid scrutiny of the sector’s links to Chinese technology company Huawei.
Earlier this month Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Oxford announced that they would not pursue new funding opportunities with Huawei, amid increasing global scrutiny of the Chinese technology company.
But multiple other institutions with links to the company have declined to make similar commitments when asked by Research Fortnight. Many research-intensive universities with partnerships or grants with Huawei have instead defended the rigour and robustness of their processes for engaging with industry partners.
