Research England has joined its Italian counterpart to support research assessment and the evaluation of knowledge exchange in universities.

The announcement comes after senior leaders at the English research body and the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems (ANVUR) met in Rome in April to share experiences, Research England said on 7 May.

Topics of discussion included the countries’ approaches to research assessment, third mission activity and socio-economic impact of research in universities. The funders also discussed issues related to research evaluation, such as open-access publishing, use of bibliometric indicators and costs.
