More than half of providers under review

Meeting minutes from university boards reveal a variety of reasons for Office for Students’ monitoring

An investigation by Research Fortnight’s sister title HE has revealed that nearly 200 institutions on the Office for Students’ register have been placed under “enhanced monitoring” by the regulator.

The OfS register lists institutions that have complied with regulation and are approved as higher education providers eligible to access the student loan book. Although it lists institutions with “conditions of registration”—areas that need improvement to avoid a fine or being removed from the register—it does not name providers under so-called enhanced monitoring.
