Don’t forget ongoing funding, says Royce institute chair

Capital investment in university facilities must be accompanied by adequate funding to support them, the chair of the Henry Royce Institute has said.

Julia King, a crossbench peer in the House of Lords, issued the plea at an event to celebrate the latest funding round of Research England’s UK Research Partnership Investment Fund, which supports major infrastructure projects in universities.

Set to officially open in 2020, the Royce institute is already up and running at the University of Manchester, where its people work on materials subjects ranging from graphene to nuclear science. It has satellite centres at Imperial College London and the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge and Oxford.
