Michael Arthur, the president and provost of University College London, has warned that early-career researchers could be hit particularly hard by any gap in European Union funding.
Speaking at an event in Brussels on 10 September, Arthur said there was the potential for a “human-scientific disaster” caused by a loss of EU funding between the end of the EU research programme Horizon 2020 and the UK joining its successor Horizon Europe.
“We’re beginning to see that a gap will open up,” he told Research Professional News, adding that there were concerns that a funding vacuum could last for up to two years.
