Academics question need for a new institution in the north of England

Policy experts have reacted with confusion to reports of plans for an “MIT of the North”.

In an interview with the Sunday Times on 22 December, Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry talked of setting up a “world-leading institution in the north to rival Oxford and Cambridge, where the best and brightest will base themselves”.
