More institutions shift teaching online and close buildings

A swathe of universities have now pre-empted government advice and declared a partial or full shutdown of their activities. 

On 13 March, as the education secretary was urging universities to “actually look at what the medical and scientific advice is” and remain open, institutions began announcing closures.
