The universities minister is ‘proud and grateful’ for the sector’s response to ‘unprecedented’ challenge

In an exclusive piece for Research Professional News, the minister of state for universities Michelle Donelan has praised the way universities have responded to the “unprecedented challenge to people’s lives and livelihoods” represented by the Covid-19 crisis.

“I am so proud and grateful for the calm and decisive leadership I am seeing from all our higher education providers, and their incredibly creative and pragmatic response in such a short space of time,” she writes.

She also expresses gratitude to “all staff on the ground, from scientific researchers to those caring for students in accommodation, working hard in difficult circumstances to play a part in the greater effort”.

“Universities deserve our gratitude—they are not immune from the pressures that others are facing,” Donelan writes.
