In-person teaching to continue as Omicron restrictions tighten

Department for Education publishes guidance for English universities after prime minister’s Plan B announcement

Face-to-face teaching in universities should continue despite the prime minister’s order that people in England must work from home if possible as the Omicron Covid-19 variant spreads across the UK, the Department for Education has said.

In guidance for English higher education published on 9 December, the department said that universities “should continue to deliver face-to-face teaching”. Workers “can continue to attend work as necessary to deliver this”, although some administrative staff have been advised to work from home from 13 December.
