Royal Institution appointment

Katherine Mathieson has been appointed director of the Royal Institution after five years at the helm of the British Science Association. Mathieson will leave the BSA for the RI in the spring of 2022, replacing interim director Lucinda Hunt. Mathieson joined the BSA as director of education in 2009. She then became director of programmes, before being appointed chief executive in 2016. Mathieson said it had been an “immense privilege” to work at the BSA, adding that “the time is right for someone else to bring fresh energy, ideas and networks” to the chief executive role.
