‘Culture shift’ needed for mental health conversations in UK

Conference delegates discuss student support as OfS publishes evaluation of mental health challenge scheme

A “culture shift” among university leaders is needed in the UK to encourage greater openness on mental health, a conference has heard.

Speaking on 12 October at a Westminster Higher Education Forum webinar that explored student mental health, John de Pury, assistant director of policy at vice-chancellors’ body Universities UK, said it was “striking” that “there isn’t a single vice-chancellor who discloses their own struggle with mental health”.
