UCU gets national backing for strikes at all university branches

Walkouts possible at 150 universities in first UK-wide action for education union since 2016

More than 70,000 university staff could go on strike in the ongoing rows over pensions and pay, after members of the University and College Union voted to walk out in two “historic” national ballots.

One hundred and fifty universities in the UK could see staff take to the picket lines after the UCU secured victories in the nationwide ballots over the Universities Superannuation Scheme, and pay and conditions disputes, the union said on 24 October.
