Former universities ministers criticise tone of ministerial comments on higher education participation

The government is sending “confusing” messages about the role of higher education in its drive to develop England’s higher technical education offer, a former universities and science minister has said.

Jo Johnson, now a Conservative Lord, called for greater “clarity of messaging” from the Department for Education in discussions about post-16 education provision, particularly in relation to the role of universities.
