Universities ask prime minister and European Commission’s vice-president to intervene at “crucial point for association”
The Russell Group of research-intensive universities has urged prime minister Boris Johnson and European Commission vice-president Maroš Šefčovič to personally intervene to break the deadlock on UK association to Horizon Europe.
Political disputes continue to hold up UK participation in the bloc’s €95.5 billion (£80.5bn) R&D programme, leaving UK-based grant winners unable to receive funding from the EU. While the UK government has insisted it is still keen to become a part of the programme, it is also planning a “bold Plan B” in the event that the UK does not associate.
