Equality measures used in REF 2021 ‘come at a cost’

Diversity panel chair says “much thought” needed on how to capture EDI in REF

Some of the equality measures put in place for the Research Excellence Framework have “come at a cost” to institutions and funders, according to the head of the REF’s diversity panel.

Dianne Berry, chair of the REF Equality and Diversity Advisory Panel, wrote in a blog post on 18 May that some of the equality measures included in the REF 2021, “particularly the individual circumstances process, have come at a cost—both to institutions and the funding bodies”.
