Problems plague EU funding guarantee for UK researchers

Researchers left guessing after huge EU ‘joint undertakings’ schemes missed off government’s safety net list

British researchers have been left in limbo after major business-linked parts of the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme were left out of a UK government guarantee to substitute European funding.

With UK membership of Horizon Europe stymied over political disagreements with the EU, the government has said it will cover R&D funding won by British research organisations, which have been encouraged to keep applying for European funding.
