Former foreign office minister appointed after Michelle Donelan quits role within two days

James Cleverly has become the third education secretary in two days, after Michelle Donelan resigned less than 48 hours after being appointed.

Cleverly, previously the minister for Europe and North America, was named education secretary by prime minister Boris Johnson just before midday on 7 July.
