Packed in-tray greets new education secretary, who could be good news for London universities

At around midday on Thursday 7 July, James Cleverly became the third education secretary of the week.

The Conservative MP for Braintree took the job after Michelle Donelan resigned “with great sadness”, around 35 hours after she was appointed, following Nadhim Zahawi’s boost from the role of education secretary to chancellor.
