Universities to see ‘record numbers of students’ this autumn

Ucas data show rise in applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds but big drop in EU applicants

A higher proportion of school and college leavers than ever before have applied for a place at a UK university this autumn, with a significant rise among students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

But the number of EU-domiciled applicants, who pay higher international tuition fees after Brexit, is the lowest since before 2006.
