University groups hit out at ITT reductions

Several universities not re-accredited for teacher training following controversial government review

University bodies have reacted angrily to the latest round of the government’s teacher-training accreditation, which has seen several universities miss out.

On 29 September, the Department for Education (DfE) published a list of schools, colleges and universities that have been accredited to deliver initial teacher training from 2024. The outcomes follow two application rounds that were held in the wake of government reforms to ITT, which several university groups warned against when they were published in 2021.
