UK allocated 46 ERC Starting Grants amid funding uncertainty

Successful researchers do not yet know where their European Research Council money will come from

UK organisations are set to host 46 awards from the European Research Council’s 2021 Starting Grants funding round but do not yet know whether the funding will come from the ERC or from the UK government.

Disagreements between the UK and the EU over the implementation of a trade agreement reached in December 2020 have delayed the formalisation of UK participation in the bloc’s €95.5 billion (£80.5bn) Horizon Europe R&D programme, which the ERC sits in.
