Wellcome chief executive
UK health-research funder Wellcome has appointed John-Arne Røttingen as the charity’s new chief executive. Røttingen, who is currently Norway’s foreign ambassador for global health, succeeds Jeremy Farrar, who left Wellcome in February 2023 to become chief scientist at the World Health Organization. Starting in January 2024, Røttingen will be responsible for a budget of £16 billion up to 2032, focused on supporting frontline research and programmes on mental health, infectious disease and the health impacts of the climate crisis.
