REF reforms ‘will not devalue research’, senior academic claims

Stephen Curry hits back at former vice-chancellor who queried increased focus on research culture

Plans to include assessments of research culture in the UK’s next Research Excellence Framework will not result in less focus on measuring research excellence, an influential academic has said.

Writing in response to claims that the reforms could water down the REF’s focus on research output, Stephen Curry, professor of structural biology at Imperial College London and director of strategy at the Research on Research Institute, dismissed the concerns.
