UUK conference hears concerns over new migration policy

             

Potential drop in international students and academics worries universities and research sector

The UK’s immigration policy could lead to a drop in international students at a time when higher education institutions are relying ever-more heavily on fees from abroad, an online conference has heard.

Shahid Omer, director of policy at umbrella group Universities UK, told the organisation’s conference last week that both larger teaching institutions and smaller specialist research establishments are “assuming an increased reliance on international fee income”.
