International students ‘contribute more than £40bn’ to UK

    

Hepi director calls for any entry rule changes to be “based on evidence rather than whim”

International students contribute more than £40 billion to the UK economy and the benefits of hosting them “significantly outweigh the costs”, research has found.

A joint analysis by vice-chancellors’ body Universities UK, the Higher Education Policy Institute and Kaplan International Pathways found that international students contributed £41.9bn to the economy in 2021-22, up from £31.3bn in 2018-19.
