New graduates feel Covid-19 squeeze as salaries fall

Longitudinal Education Outcomes data show drop in earnings for new first-degree graduates in 2020-21

New graduates saw their pay fall for the first time in the 2020-21 tax year due to the fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic, government data reveal.

Longitudinal Education Outcomes (Leo) data show that for UK-domiciled graduates who left university in the 2018-19 academic year, median earnings one year after graduation were lower than for those who had left university in 2017-18, down to around £21,500 from £21,600.
