Cost of living crisis sees students opt to stay at home

Fifth of A-level students going to university decide against moving away during term time

One in five students collecting their A-level results next week have already decided to live at home during term time at university as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.

Research from the Sutton Trust social mobility charity published 10 August found that among school leavers who had already applied to university or planned to, 20 per cent want to live at home if they are accepted to their first-choice university. A further 14 per cent were undecided on whether they would move away during term time.
